COMMUNITY

MATTERs

American Legion Post 201 was established 76 years ago to celebrate the countless contributions of our Nation’s veterans, their families and the community in which it is located. This year we will begin major renovations and improvements to the facilities and 13 acres of grounds in order to provide the best experience for those visiting and utilizing our offerings.

The goal of this project is to raise $1.5 million for the repairs, improvements and expansions detailed below. Your contribution is needed and appreciated in order for this project to succeed.

Educational Upgrades

Remembering the men and women who have served our great country and educating visitors of their heroic past is where you will find the heart of Post 201.  Educational upgrades include:

  • Walk of Memories maintenance
  • Funds for maintaining the two aircraft, the tank and the gun platform (all of which are on loan with the understanding that they will be kept in good repair)
  • Signage enhancements which may include an interactive discussion associated with each plaza on the Walk
  • Support for the Boys State and Oratorical Contest Scholarship programs
  • Expanding our existing scholarship programs with additional funding and youth support
  • Other educational outreach undertakings to more aggressively promote the Walk as a destination location for local area tourism. Awesome Alpharetta (Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau) created the brochure on this link

Sports Facilities Improvements

Since 1947, American Legion Post 201 has enjoyed hosting our grounds for hundreds of baseball games, outdoor activities and more.  We are quite proud of the more than 40 individuals using our facilities whom have gone on to play in the major baseball league system! Improvements in this project will include:

  • Replacing the 500 seats along the first and third base lines
  • A new modern scoreboard
  • Updated broadcasting equipment for the press box
  • Additional concession stand improvements

Repairs and Maintenance

For more than a decade, Post 201 has suffered damage from the elements as well as daily use. Safety is always our primary focus, with aesthetics being a close second, for all who visit our location. Raised funds will be used to:

  • Replace the building’s roof
  • Resurface the parking lot
  • Improve the entry-way to the Post
  • Establish a reserve fund for future, unplanned major expenses

Venue Upgrades

American Legion Post 201 is home to one of the largest dance floors in Georgia with a 4500 square foot ballroom. There are several upgrades that will make this venue even more highly-sought for special events (weddings, anniversaries, corporate parties, health screenings, job fairs, general meeting space and more). Here are just a few of the proposed upgrades:

  • Long-awaited refurbishments of the ladies and mens restrooms
  • Bringing the kitchen to commercial-grade standards
  • New furniture for the ballroom
  • Restoration of the dance floor
  • Rebuilding of the sound stage
  • Making significant improvements to the entry foyer
